ST:TNG I'm really not very thorough

So it looks like some super nerds over at tor.com have started an in-depth rewatch of all the Next Generation episodes.  It's kind of embarrassing posting my stream of consciousness crap after seeing how thorough they are!  Embarrassment has never been a problem for me, just acknowledging it.

ST:TNG 1.7 The Lonely Among Us

Hot delegate transportation action!

Delegates from alien species 1 seem closely related to the Goombas from the Mario Brothers movie.

Ooh, enter the 'unusual energy object'.  Considerable energy is changing patterns and.. travelling at warp speed!  Be still my quivering geekiness.

Ugh.  Worf got zapped while working on the sensor array.  Zapped so hard his forehead prosthetic nearly blew off.

We get to see Dr. Crusher sporting the latest in.. weird medical skullcaps?  Enough of that, though, she's apparently caught some energy transference from Worf.  In other news, Picard "loves mysteries".

Not a whole lot to actually say about this episode.  Can I really continue talking about Wesley's sweater?  Very much looking forward to Crusher doing more than walking around looking creepy.

13 minutes in and I think they blew the writing budget on the alien costumes, but they've only been used in one brief scene each.

At this point this episode has lost me.  The alien species are both dicks and.. wait.. huh.. Data has begun channelling Sherlock Holmes, including pipe, as they try to figure out what the delegates have to do with the ship problems.  Ah, the moment has passed.  Return to boredom..

Energy whatever has possessed Picard.  Actually kind of loving cocky Picard.  Wondering what the Federation would be like if every ship had all this random crap happening to it all the time.

How did this energy being not decide to go after Data?

Energy/Picard used the transporter to beam both of them out into the energy cloud, supposedly because Picard wants to explore the universe as energy.  Turns out that won't work, so Energy version of Picard gets back into the circuitry of the Enterprise.  But when they reverse the transporter beam, they essentially recreate the captain from the transporter buffer.  Don't they have the ability to just create a few more Datas using the same technique?  Is this how the replicators work?  I need more detailed mumbo-jumbo to explain this..

Ultimately the delegates seemed there to fill time in the episode and give the crew a false trail to follow as to why an engineer was found dead in the engine room.

This episode is possibly too pulpy for me.  Maybe if I was reading this in a magazine from the 50s, but..

Great finds this weekend

Went to Louisville, KY this weekend for the first time.  Found some great media sources.  Picked up the following at great prices.

  • MST3K Collection Volume 12 - The one with Parts:The Clonus Horror.
  • MST3K - Beginning of the End - long out of print!
  • Freaks - I've seen it, but really look forward to the commentary.  Unless I've actually watched it before..
  • Battle Royale
The latter two of those I found at Wild and Wooly Video in Louisville - fantastic horror, import, sci-fi imports for rental.
